The following are excerpts from the Lake Porch guest reviews posted on our Vacation Rentals by Owners (VRBO) page.
Luckily we found LakePorch this summer and we and all our kids have a new favorite. The house had plenty of room. All the improvements Mr. Calloway made over the years were greatly appreciated. The boat was a big plus, and the 3 person tube was an extra added bonus.
The location on the cove was tranquil and the sloping grass area between the house and lake was perfect for the smaller grandchildren. Trout fishing, gem mining, waterfall exploring, golf, boating to the nearby island and tubing was enjoyed by all. The house was well equipped and Mr. Calloway's agent, Anne Jones was very helpful with the details to make our stay one of the most enjoyable ever in the North Carolina Mountains.
We rent in NC mtns. every year and this is the best. Close to everything.
My family of 12 which ranges in ages from 3-64 stayed here at the end of May. We were so amazed at how well the place was stocked with everything you would need and more. The outdoor living space was so relaxing and had beautiful views of Lake Glenville and the mountains (pictures do not do justice). We cooked many meals in the fully stocked kitchen and enjoyed eating outside on deck and in the screened in dining area. The downstairs was like a whole other living area for kids to enjoy (adults also enjoyed playing card games). We rented the pontoon boat and did some fishing and tubing. The water is a little cold this time of year but the kids didn't seem to mind.
Downtown Cashiers is a really nice place with little shops and would highly recommend the Farmers Market. We also went to Pisgah National Forest and took the kids to Sliding Rock which they loved. Also went to Dupont State Forest which where the first Hunger Games was filmed and has absolutely breathtaking waterfalls. Don't forget to go whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River. All these locations are within a 45 minute drive of the house.
Anne was wonderful to work with and overall this is one of the nicest vacation rentals my family has stayed in and has everything you would need.
We've just arrived home from our stay in this fabulous house on Lake Glenville! (My husband and I traveled from New Jersey - the rest of the family arrived from Louisiana.) Everything was absolutely perfect...we were there to celebrate my mother's birthday and my wedding. My husband and I got married on the front lawn overlooking the lake during the afternoon, then we all had dinner at On the Verandah in Highlands.
The decks were spectacular - plenty of room to spread out and relax! The kitchen is fully stocked with plenty of dishes and every imaginable kitchen gadget. We enjoyed dinner each evening in the screened in dining room. We also rented the boat and spent most days cruising around the lake - during our cruises, we realized this house offers such a gorgeous view of the lake along with easy access to the dock. Many of the houses, while on the lake, don't have the same full view of the lake and many have hundreds of steps from the house to the dock. The weather was beautiful - warm days and cool night - no mosquitoes! (What a treat for us!)
The house was spotless when we arrived and the realtor, Anne, made sure we knew where everything was. We will definitely be back! Thank you!
The location of the property is perfect. The decking allows you to enjoy nature even if it's raining.. Watching the geese was very entertaining. We really enjoyed spending a lot of time on the lake. The surrounding beauty was breathtaking.
We come to Lake Glenville each year as a family and have stayed in several different homes. Our children are all older, High School and College, so this house was a perfect fit! The downstairs was the hangout for the kids to watch tv and have their poker tournaments. The adults enjoyed the upstairs with the huge TV and deck overlooking the lake. There was plenty of room for all 10 of us.
There is a huge dining table that was perfect for our Monopoly games. Tons of comfortable seating throughout the house, great grill for cooking out and a second small but updated kitchen downstairs. We took advantage of the Pontoon and enjoyed every minute on it. It seated all of us comfortably and the motor is large enough to pull a wakeboarder. We hope to come back again next year and highly recommend this house.
This home on Lake Glenville was a wonderful experience and rates as one of our best vacations to the mountains. The house was clean, roomy and spacious and accommodated our family group of 10 well. Being on the lake and having the pontoon boat at our disposal for the week was definitely a plus.
The ages of our group ranged from 10 years to 70 years and everyone enjoyed the lake house immensely. There was something for everyone to do, from sitting on the wonderful decks to enjoy the view and the mountain breezes to fishing off the pier and spending time on the pontoon boat puttering around the lake.
The owners agent was very helpful and accommodating during our stay. I recommend this house highly for families with young children and teenagers. Our family is planning to return as soon as possible.
Our family including 8 adults and 3 small children spent a great week at this home recently and couldn't have asked for better accommodations. The pictures do not do justice to the actual size of the common areas such as the two dens, the porches and the kitchens. Having use of the boat was the icing on top. The area is beautiful and because the property is so nice we were content to stay right there and enjoy the house and the boat during the entire week. We would like to return in the future.
This was our first stay at this beautiful home on Lake Glenville. We have visited this area for the past 20 years and stayed in many different vacation homes on various lakes. This home is at the top of the list. Everything about our stay was perfect. The spacious and beautifully decorated home was so comfortable for our group. There were 8 of us with plenty of room to spare. The pontoon boat made our stay exceptional. We all went out on the boat for day and night cruises and fishing. We are already making plans for next year! Stayed: August 2011
This was our first stay at Lake Glenville. This property is located off the main lake in a beautiful cove. The pontoon boat was a real value - large and comfortable for cruising and fast enough to pull skiers. The decks were great for enjoying the cool mountain evenings. We found the house perfect for our family with 7 adults and 1 infant and we hope to have a chance to stay there again soon.
